Unreleased Fangoria Cover
Frank Rambaldi
Ink on paper
1979
Fangoria magazine was set to feature an illustrated cover for Excorio and an interview with Rambaldi about the film’s unique visuals. Excorio would grace the cover of Fangoria #7, the first issue of any US magazine to focus solely on the genre of horror. The issue’s publishing date was set for just months before the film’s October release, but Excorio’s production was facing serious issues in July. Numerous tragedies and interruptions caused the film to dissolve before completion, and Excorio was replaced with a cover story of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. In August of 1979, Rambaldi contracted rabies from a stray dog and died a week later.
